Caring for your family

Support with every decision, without pressure

The death of a child is an experience no family expects to face. You do not need to understand the funeral process before speaking to us, and you do not need to make every decision at once.

Your Personal Funeral Advisor will listen carefully, explain each step in plain language and help you arrange a funeral that reflects your child, your beliefs and the wishes of your family.

We can support funerals for babies, children and young people who had not reached their 18th birthday at the time of their death. We can also guide families following a stillbirth.

You can call before all paperwork is complete. We can explain the immediate steps and begin supporting your family while the hospital, Medical Examiner, registrar or coroner completes the necessary process.

Help with funeral costs

The Children's Funeral Fund for England

The fund is available regardless of household income and can help with eligible costs when the burial or cremation takes place in England.

Families do not normally need to make the claim themselves

For a child under 18, or a baby stillborn after the 24th week of pregnancy, eligible burial and cremation providers can claim their fees directly. We can also claim eligible funeral director expenses, including up to £300 towards a coffin, shroud or casket.

The fund is not means-tested. We will explain what is covered, what may sit outside the scheme and any additional choices before you agree to them.

Common questions

Children's Funerals Explained Gently

Does the Children's Funeral Fund depend on our income?
No. The Children's Funeral Fund for England is not means-tested. It can help with eligible costs for a child under 18, or a baby stillborn after the 24th week of pregnancy, where the burial or cremation takes place in England.
Can we spend time with our child in a Chapel of Rest?
Yes. We have private Chapels of Rest, and visits can be arranged with your Personal Funeral Advisor. We will prepare the chapel carefully and give your family privacy and time.
Can the coffin or service be personalised?
Yes. Children's coffins and caskets can include colours, pictures, hobbies, animals, sport, characters or a bespoke design. Music, flowers and Orders of Service can also be personalised.
Can brothers, sisters or other children take part?
They can, if the family feels it is appropriate. This might involve choosing a song, writing a message, placing a flower, drawing a picture or taking part in another gentle way.
Do we have to decide everything immediately?
No. Some practical steps may need to happen promptly, but many funeral choices can be considered over time. We will explain what is urgent and what can wait.
Can you arrange burial or cremation?
Yes. We can arrange either burial or cremation and explain the paperwork, venue options, Children's Funeral Fund support and any third-party requirements.
